India has taken a step back into the dark ages this week when the Supreme Court declared same sex relationship to be illegal yet again. This is an issue I feel very strongly about. I may not have any personal interest in the issue but I think LGBT rights is a topic related very strongy to the development of India.
India is known for its culture and heritage and many consider homosexuality as "unatural". These conservative people have to realise that the scriptures do not condemn homosexuality and in numerous temple carvings, homosexuality has been depicted.
Some celebrity marriages last for a matter of few months. Why should two people who have been faithful to eachother for years not be allowed to marry just because they are of the same sex? I'm not saying throw a huge wedding and call everyone in the street to party (If you would prefer that feel free) but atleast the oppertunity to make it legal for all to see.
Anothe thing that bugs me is that what business does the government have in what goes on in the private lives of two people in love?
What disappoints me is the backward mindset of the people. Meeting a gay person isn't gonna turn you gay. It is merely going to give you a perspective into an alternate lifestyle.
I really hope people open up their minds and something is done about this issue.
